Tools That Every Information Professional Should Have
When you pack your messenger bag and hook on your “bat belt” every day and head out to do battle in the Information Age, there are certain tools that every Information Professional should have.
I would go so far as to say that you need to question your standing in the profession if some of these tools are not within arms length right now… even if you are at home!
The required tools are:
- Laptop. (Netbook substitution is permissible)
- SmartPhone for Work. (BlackBerry is usual, but iPhone is acceptable if no one in your office wears ties.)
- SmartPhone for Home.
- Bluetooth Headset. (Smaller is better.)
- Apple iPod. (Not required if iPhone option selected for #3 above)
- Moleskin Notebook. (3×5 cards or alternative memory capture device acceptable)
- Debit Card. (Cash is very industrial Age)
- USB Thumb Drive.
- Precision Wrist Watch. (Bolder is better.)
- Amazon Kindle. (Latest addition to geek chic for early adopters. Controversial.)
How does this compare to your weapon arsenal? Did I miss any? Was #10 too bleeding edge for you? What do you think the next “must have” gadget will be for Information Technology types?
