Five things that make me fear that Skynet may be closer than we think:

  1. Massively cross-site, single sign-on schemes are suddenly becoming very popular.
  2. Nearly every CPU fielded today is bundled with an integrated networking capability.
  3. Location based services and capabilities are standard and enabled by default on devices.
  4. There are now far more computers on the planet than humans.
  5. Artificial Intelligence experts are debating when the first machine will become self-aware, not if it will happen.

As a species, we don’t have such a great track record of looking before we leap with tool creation and technology harnessing.

I urge all Information Technology Professionals informed caution.
