Computer Humor: Murphy’s Laws of Computing
This is another in my normal humorous Saturday blog post series about a funny aspect of the Information Technology profession. In the past, I have featured jokes, comics, cartoons, and news.
So I went looking for some humor to share with you today. I searched and searched for a good computer joke and ended up finding "Murphy’s Laws of Computing". Honestly, they would be far less funny if not for the fact that they are so so very true!
I found today’s lists at TOMAX7 – DIGITALSMILES. They claim that they were first compiled by laughalot-owner@laughalot.com. Though the link appears to be dead. They list the original sources as "Unknown". If anyone knows the proper source and link, please pass to me and I will update soonest!
MURPHY’S LAWS OF COMPUTING
-
For every action, there is an equal and opposite malfunction.
-
To err is human… to blame your computer for your mistakes is even more human; in fact it is downright natural.
-
He who laughs last probably made a back-up.
-
If at first you don’t succeed, blame your computer.
-
A complex system that does not work is invariably found to have evolved from a simpler system that worked just fine.
-
The number one cause of computer problems is computer solutions.
-
A computer program will always do what you tell it to do, but rarely what you want it to do.
-
When computing, whatever happens, behave as though you meant it to happen.
-
When you get to the point where you really understand your computer, it’s probably obsolete.
-
The first place to look for information is in the section of the manual where you least expect to find it.
-
When the going gets tough, upgrade.
-
When you need to send an email quick, that’s when the modem won’t connect!
Remember, there are literally dozens of these kinds of computing, Information Age, and Information Technologies funnies listed on the web. Go for a hysterical Google Trip, have a good laugh, and a super weekend.
I am always looking for inputs on other IT humor for the site. If you have any or want to let me know what you think of our Saturday topics, please leave a comment.
