Yesterday, I got to thinking about what Mega Trends were driving our Information Technology Profession. A Mega Trend is an overarching sweep to the way that a profession or industry progresses. It is the huge muscle movers to what we do.
I jotted down a few. I thought that you could use it as grist for your mill to comment, add, or argue against my list.
Information Technology Mega Trends
- Mobile Computing. The dramatic increase in mobile processing power combined with mobile data bandwidth.
- Diversity of the Desktop Operating Environment
- Diversity of the BackOffice Setup
- Distributed Workflow including off-shoring of talent
- Rise of content delivery platforms (Kindle, iPhone, iPad, Tablet, etc.)
- Dominance of Enterprise Security over Usability
- Maturing of the Information Technology Profession including the rise of standards of conduct, formality, professionalism, and accountability.
Anyhow, this is what I came up with. What do you think about this topic? Please share.
