Site Maintenance Notice – Thank you Digg
0Dear Readers,
Congratulations to us! We got our first Digg today! This is a big day in the life of any website. With Digg comes great traffic.
If you tried to access our site today and had trouble, I am deeply sorry. I believe that the wave is over now so there should not be any more troubles for today.
Since I hope that our community here continues to gain notice and there for traffic, I am in the process of implementing a web caching system that should help us prevent downtime in the future, Please bear with me while I test it and I will let you know when we are fully operational.
Thank you for your readership and contributions!

Exciting Site Service Upgrades
1Hello, readers! I have some exciting news about the services available at the IT Thought of The Day website. I have decided to partner with Google’s Feedburner RSS service to bring you enhanced functionality! These new services are live right now for your use.
- RSS Feed. First off, if you have already subscribed to my RSS feed via any means – no action on your part is required. I have made the original and new RSS feed URLs completely backwards compatible. What you will notice however, is that that feed will now be much more rich in content. Feedburner gives me the ability to add attachments including podcasts, video, audio, etc. Its formatting is also much nicer. I think that it gives the feed a much more polished feel. If you are new to RSS feed subscriptions, please give it a try by using the link in the upper right hand corner or here .
- E-mail Subscriptions. Some of you asked for this. Now I can deliver it. You can use the new form on the right sidebar or Subscribe to IT THOUGHT OF THE DAY by Email by clicking here to get the IT Thought of The Day sent straight to your inbox everyday just as soon as I publish it! Please sign-up and give it a try.
I hope that the changes make your experience better. If, however, there are any unexpected consequences of my actions, please let me know. I welcome your feedback and comments on the changes.
WordCamp Mid-Atlantic
0
Today is the first ever WordCamp Mid-Atlantic . It is being held local to me in Baltimore. Unfortunately, it is sold out, but you can read about it here . You can also follow it on Twitter at #wordcampmidatl . I am sure there will be one next year based upon the sell out plus there is bound to be one near you if you are interested in attending.
This will be my first time interacting in person with the local DC/Baltimore Metro blogger scene and I am excited to meet everyone.
If you are here from WordCamp, I sincerely thank you for taking the time and investing your attention in my content. If you leave me a comment with your link or send me an email using my contact form, I would be honored to return your favor of constructive criticism. I welcome your feedback on my blog. Please seek me out on twitter @Scott_Coughlin or @ITThought so we can meet at the conference, too.
WordCamp is a community based "un-conference" where users, developers, and vendors of WordPress , my blogging platform, gather to foster synergy, mutual improvement, and simply socialize. It is one of the best things about new media, our Information Age, and IT in general.
My IT thought for the day is "What is it about new media and the Internet that produces these intense community based groups seeking nothing more than mutual benefit?" You can see the same behaviors associated with Linux, Photoshop, and famously the Macintosh platform. It is one of my favorite parts about my profession.
Why do you think we have this sense of community? Is it limited to Information Professionals or are there other examples? Do you like it, too, or are there disadvantages? Please share your thoughts.
